Circulatory System KS2

This week in Science, within their Circulatory System topic, the year 5 and 6s made their own blood samples. This was done by measuring out the ingredients (syrup, food colouring, oil and milk) precisely and then it was time for them to give it a good mix! They were then to observe their representative blood sample. The different layers within their blood sample represent the components of blood. As a group we labeled them as Plasma (the top layer), the thin white middle layer representing the white blood cells and platelets, and the red lower layer as the red blood cells. Afterwards we explored what the blood does in our bodies and how it travels through the body in veins, arteries and capillaries.

Beatrix Potter

Yesterday class 1 visited the Beatrix Potter attraction in Bowness in relation to their ‘movers and shakers’ class project. They encountered ‘Beatrix Potter’ herself and were able to ask her questions about her life, books, and characters. They found out her favorite book was ‘The Tailor of Gloucester’ and that she used to live in Lindon before moving up the Lake District and into Hill Top Farm. Afterward, the whole class had the chance to wander around the museum and explore the world of Beatrix Potter. Everyone has a brilliant time and came away with big smiles and a fantastic understanding of Beatrix Potter and her work.

Year 6 Expedition Club

This week we started our year 6 Expedition Club, a brand new after school club designed to make the most of unique & beautiful location. With all 8 very eager years 6s on board, we took this time going through all their kit, for example, how to use their camping stoves, rucksacks, and sleeping bags. But most importantly, they used this time to practise putting their tents up and down. We think it might be time for a time trial next? How fast can the Year 6s successfully put up and take down their tent🤔

Westmorland Show

What a fantastic start to the term we have all had! Last Thursday, the children had their annual trip to the Westmorland Show, and despite the drizzly weather, everyone had a fantastic time! Whilst looking around the show, it allowed Class 2 to do some research regarding their current Geography topic “Sow, Grow and Farm” and for them to expand in their already growing knowledge of framing in the UK. Whereas Class 1 gathered information throughout the day to help them with their morning writing, and for then to expand their vocabulary and allow then to describe their day in detail.

Class 1 D&T Project

Within D&T Class 1 have been spending their Friday afternoons designing and creating their own cars. And wow, don’t they all look amazing!! What a fantastic job they have all done! They had to think about their wheels, what size they will be and where they will be placed on their base and many other aspects. I wonder which one would win in a race?

Homemade Ice Cream

Whilst Class 2 have been away, Class 1 have been getting up to some exciting activities at school this week. One activity included them making their own healthy ice creams, where the children got to choose their own ingredients, measure them out and blitz it all together, before putting them into their moulds. And with any spare ingredients they made fruit smoothies for snack time! Yummy!

Sports Day!

We had sports day this week. Even though we didn’t have the best of weather, rain tops were on and a great effort from all pupils. Everyone should be really proud of themselves. A big thank you to parents for a great turn out to support your children. Also, a big congratulations goes out to Artengill, who are this years sports day winners – Well done👏👏

Class 1 Safari

In Class 1 this week, the pupils have been delving further into their ‘hot countries’ topic. With Year 1 and 2 focusing on the Lion King and the Receptions reading ‘Handa’s Surprise’, everyone has come together to create their own safari animals with a wide range of different recyclable items. Alongside this, the children have also been writing their own travel journal  which involves a safari. I wonder what kind of animals they might bump into on their very own safari?

Film Club!

Film club is run on Fridays by Mandy. Pupils work together to make their own mini films by using stop-motion and creating their scenes with the wide range of Lego we have in school. As well as developing their own films, they also have the delight of sitting down and relaxing to watch a film once every few weeks. How nice!

Tag Rugby Festival

Today, Class 2 attended a tag rugby festival at Settlebeck School. Team A and Team B both did fantastic and displayed some brilliant rugby skills. We also managed to escape the rain and had some much welcomed sunshine☀️. A big thank you to Settleback for having us. We are very proud of our 2 teams, who both played amazingly!
