Friends of Dent Monthly Raffle
Here’s an exciting opportunity… As we are not able to go ahead with many of our fundraising activities at the current time, the Friends of Dent have started a new monthly prize draw to support the school. This is a great opportunity to win an indulgent prize whilst helping to showcase the best of local businesses, and raising much needed money for the school.
The funds that Friends of Dent raise for the school really help to make a great difference to the children in our school, so please do get involved!

Christmas Celebrations!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of our pupils & families, and to the whole school community. Here’s a quick look back at some of our festive fun in the last week or two.
Class 2 performing their original Christmas play.Â
Here’s a selection of shots of Class 2 performing their lovely Christmas scene with all of it’s amusing moments.
Class 1 Nativity
As usual Class 1 performed their delightful traditional nativity, following the Christmas story from the first chapters of Matthew and Luke, completely with a whole class rendition of Silent Night on the hand-bells.
And finally we had our Christmas Party…Â
Everyone had a great time in their festive outfits with our usual assortment of Christmas games, and of course prizes too.
Have a great Christmas break and we’ll see you all in 2020!
Mock Election!
We love celebrating our democracy and so of course we are taking the opportunity of a REAL election next week to hold our own mock election!
We ordered a full ‘mock election’ pack from the Houses of Parliament and were excited to receive a fantastic pack of resources to set up our own democratic contest.
Children from every year have really enjoyed getting involved in holding an election and campaigning and voting ourselves.
Our four delegates to the South Lakes Pupil Parliament are using their expertise to act as returning officers, and four children from acrossdefault the school have stood as candidates.
Class 2 have spent some time thinking about how policies help us to decide how to vote, as well as deciding what type of policy they would prioritise in government.
It’s been great fun going through the process of registering to vote and receiving our polling cards! We’re excited about December 12th!
Children in Need
Two of our core Christian Values as a school are Service and Compassion, and both of those came to the fore in our thinking last week as we held our Children in Need fundraising afternoon.
The children worked hard to bake some delicious treats, brought in items to sell, and set up fun activity stalls for people to join in with.
With the help of the wider Dent community we were able to raise £519 for Children in Need.
Well done to the children for their hard work and thank you to everyone who joined us to raise money for a good cause.
Pupil Parliament
Every term for the last three years, children from Key Stage 2 have participated in the South Lakes Pupil Parliament. Our latest cohort went to the first session of this year’s Parliament on Thursday and had a fantastic time.
Our pupils had a chance to meet and quiz Tim Farron, our local MP, as well as take part in presentations and learn all about how Parliament works from Rachel Dodgson, the fantastic Parliament Education Officer for our area.
We always enjoy this opportunity to celebrate our democracy and learn about the rule of law in our country, especially in the grand setting of the Netherwood Hotel. As always it was a challenging day for the pupils as they worked together with pupils from other schools to decide what our key issue should be for the year ahead. After presentations we held an electronic ballot to vote on what to do.
When we got back to school we shared our learning with the other pupils in school, which is something we normally do. We have also ordered an election toolkit from Parliament so that we can run our own Mock General Election. We are excited about being democratic in the year ahead!
Harvest Festival
Of all the events in the Christian calendar which we celebrate, Harvest is one the the most enjoyable, as it gives all of the children an opportunity to think about what our values mean in practice and how we can help others.
This year our children had a new approach to Harvest: instead of preparing traditional harvest boxes for older members of the Dentdale community, the Class 2 children made chutneys for them from locally sourced apples. This meant that they were able to collect food instead for a food-bank in Kendal, and will be exploring how they can help to serve others there.
As always it was a lovely occasion and we greatly appreciate the support of those community members who joined us for our celebration.
Class 1, who have also been learning about Harvest in RE, also joined in by performing a harvest poem which they had written.
